Shabbat and Festival Blessings for Candle Lighting

Part of observing sabbath (shabbat) and the holidays, we light candles and say the blessing. This is always done before sundown. This page will help you with the shabbat blessing and lighting and the festival blessing and lighting.

What if there is no way possible to know what time to light candles?

Aish.com says, "If you don't have such a guide, simply check your local newspaper for the time of sunset and subtract 18 minutes. That is candle lighting time. If one did not light candles 18 minutes before sunset he can still light candles up to a few minutes before sunset."

* These times are CST (central Standard time).*
